Bear in mind that the 6D's show how technologies, once digitized, become affordable and accessible to more people – democratization – not only for their use or consumption but also to be further developed, shared and distributed, entering exponential growth. Small teams and even individuals are increasingly playing a part in shaping technological progress and this trend is unlikely to cool off.

The term "Internet of Things" (IoT) was likely coined by Kevin Ashton at MIT's Auto-ID Center in 1999. In a nutshell, IoT points to the the digital interconnection of everyday objects over the Internet, whereby a system is created that allows data to be generated, transferred, hoarded and analyzed – either by human or artificial intelligence – in order to obtain information that may be used to trigger improvements.
